Leo L. Wirtz, 80, of Midland, passed away on January 11, 2019 at Medilodge of Midland. He was born on December 24, 1938 to the late William and Agnes (Gray) Wirtz. On December 2, 1972 he married Teri Watkins and in the 16 years they spent together they had one daughter, Elaine.
Leo worked at St. John’s Lutheran Church as a custodian for 37 years, 4 months and 10 days retiring on December 31, 2004. He wasn’t only a custodian but a very involved member of the St. John’s family. Leo felt as if he was a grandpa to the children of the church. Leo used to help many people mowing their yards and shoveling their driveways. He could be seen riding his scooter around Midland and just helping people.
Leo is survived by his daughter, Elaine (Scott) Fisher, siblings; Shirley (Ed) Chapman, Ramona (Curtis) Voges, Elizabeth Tyrrell and brother-in-law Bill Mueller. He is also survived by his ex-wife Teri Watkins and special friends Mr. & Mrs. Delmar Kell.
Leo was predeceased by his siblings, Harold Wirtz, Veronica Killburn, Frances (Joe) Scheid and Marguerite Mueller.
The family would like to thank the staff at Medilodge for the care and support they gave Leo.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home with Pastor Joshua Parsons officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Midland City Cemetery.
