(December 19, 1925 – March 14, 2011)
Leroy A. Fowler, 85, passed away peacefully at home on March 14, 2011, after a long illness. He was born December 19, 1925, in Niles, Michigan. Leroy enlisted in the Marines at 17 and fought in World War II in the Pacific Theater. Following the war he attended Ferris State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and met the love of his life, Virginia Franck. They were married June 9, 1951, and moved to Midland in 1954. Lee worked for the Dow Chemical Company for 35 years. He enjoyed camping, hunting and most of all fishing on the Manistee River. He often said that a bad day of fishing was better than a good day of anything else. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, son Douglas (Kristi) of Midland, daughter and tender caretaker, Sherilyn, “second” son, Mike Banner, niece Lynn Franck and nephew Steve Franck. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful people who helped care for Lee over the last 5 years. Leroy’s family will hold a private Memorial Service at a later date. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to donate to the Salvation Army or to the Midland Food Pantry in Leroy’s name. Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly is assisting the family. Online condolences can be given at smithminer.com.
