Welcome to Smith Miner

Leslie Vickey, 84, of Midland, was welcomed into the loving arms of her Savior on May 5, 2021. Born on December 11, 1936, in Pinconning, Michigan, she was the ninth child of the late John and Olive (Briggs) Bryce. She married Bruce Vickey on August 16, 1958, and they lovingly shared 62 years together.

Leslie’s home centered around the Lord and her family. Her ministry was cooking and baking and her recipe for life infused love in every meal. With peace and grace at family gatherings, the love of the Lord was present to welcome both the familiar and the stranger. An evening walk through her garden revealed her passion for flowers and birds. Fragrances and songs, peace and quiet, family and friends all reflect the love of the Lord that she joyfully incorporated in a very well-lived life.

Leslie delighted in music, both instrumental and vocal, serving churches as organist and pianist since childhood. She could burst into song, knowing a melody for almost any situation bringing a smile and laughter to all. It was a treat to hear her worship through hymns and choruses utilizing the antique pump organ at the Coast Guard Chapel on Bois Blanc Island! Whether serving in Sunday School or music ministry, Leslie gave her heart and soul to share God’s love with others.

A life of friendship and faith was exemplified by her participation in many church groups, Midland Home Extension, Lifetime Learners classes, Women of the Church of God, and serving at Avon Park Holiness Camp. Leslie had the unique ability to make friends wherever she went. She was an excellent example of joyful faith in action!

Leslie will be missed by her family and many others who have had the opportunity to know her.

Leslie is survived by her husband Bruce, children, Tim Vickey (Josie), Karen Cook (Terry – deceased), grandsons Brandon Cook, USMC and Kyle Cook, USMC; Kimberly Ferrell (Martin), granddaughter, Jessica Ferrell.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Eagle Ridge Church of God with Rev. Bill Greiner officiating.

I have been reflecting on what a lovely person my Aunt Leslie was. Many have commented on her cooking, which was wonderful, but that was just one of the many ways she showed her love to those lucky enough to know her. Her warm smile and cheerful greeting could brighten any day and she was always ready to lend a hand (or a hug) wherever one was needed. She had a wonderful way of making you feel as if her home was your home. Above all, she had that amazing capacity for showing kindness and fostering a deep sense of family that so characterized all of Olive and John’s girls. She was the youngest, and the last of her generation to leave us and we are bereft at the loss of them all. This world is less sunny without them. But their enduring gift is the abiding sense of family they instilled in all of us. Bruce and family, I love you all. The Carey’s will be with you in spirit (and online). May you find peace and joy in remembrance.

We will be missing a great Island friend. It will be sad seeing an empty seat at the Coast Guard Chapel organ, but we know she will be making music in Heaven.

I don’t have a memory at EACOG that i wasn’t singing in the choir while Leslie was playing organ. I am so thankful to have met all
of you Tim, and Karen and Bruce. I am sorry for your loss. I remember visiting Bruce and Leslie at their home and they were drinking hot water instead of coffee! I also remember when my daughter learned to say Tim’s name, it was always “Tim Vickey, Tim Vickey!”
I know my life was changed by Bruce and Leslie’s kind Leadership and sidebar advice. I love you all. Kelly (Courtney’s Mom)
