Welcome to Smith Miner

Maurice Allen Crall Jr. passed from this world to his heavenly reward on June 16, 2021, in Dallas Texas, at the age of 88.

Maurice and Dorothy Crall’s firstborn arrived on March 14, 1933, at the family farm in Midland County. Maurice lived in Midland for the majority of his life, except for his four-year hitch in the Navy, and the last three years, spent in Dallas with his daughter and son-in-law.

Maurice married June Dyer on April 18, 1954, and they shared 65 years together before her death in 2018. He is survived by his children, Tim and Marylou Crall, of Leroy, and Martha and Joe Jansen, of Dallas; siblings Darlene Schuff, Dale Crall and Nancy Bauerle; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his brother, Darrell Crall.

Maurice had a variety of interests, and he was a lifelong learner. He was especially proud of his service in the U.S. Navy, which totaled 40 years, and his 40-year career at Dow Chemical Co. After retiring in 1991, he and June enjoyed a long and eventful “second chapter,” including more than 20 years of snowbirding in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Among Maurice’s passions: fishing and hunting with Tim and with his brother-in-law and best friend, Vard Chellis, at their beloved Canada Creek Ranch; his church and church family; travel; games of all kinds; puzzles; playing and watching softball; bicycling; volunteer work; and the Detroit Tigers.

No services are planned. Those wishing an expression of sympathy may consider Senior Services of Midland (MI) County, or the charity of their choice, in Maurice’s name.
