Melanie Leigh Blalock, 77, of Sanford, passed away on December 21, 2018 at her home surrounded by love and her family. She was born on March 27, 1941 in Midland Michigan to the late Arthur L. and Barbara W. (Bowen) Dittenber. She married Lee Blalock on June 11, 1960 at the Midland First United Methodist Church. They met when she was four and he was five on a street corner in their neighborhood, she asked him his name and he told her and she said “Hey, you have a girl’s name. I know that because that’s what my name is, and I am a girl.” He ran home and told his mother that he had a girl’s name. They didn’t meet again till high school.

Leigh was a member of the Cleft of the Rock Church. She enjoyed camping and traveling, loved flower gardening. The most important thing in her life was her family and her granddogs.

She is survived by her husband Lee Blalock, daughter Lori Blalock (Ken Darling), brothers Art Dittenber and Tom (Barb) Dittenber; granddogs Amber and Emilio.

Family would like to thank Denise, Carol, Megan and other caring staff of Mid-Michigan Hospice.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Cleft of the Rock Family Church in Sanford with Pastor Louis Carsten officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the church from 10 am until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, those are asked to consider Mid-Michigan Hospice.
