Welcome to Smith Miner

Merry Kay Pitt, born in Owosso, Michigan on October 3, 1961 was unexpectedly called home to her Lord on Friday, March 12, 2021. She left while surrounded by the love of her family and was surely greeted with open arms by those already waiting for her to arrive.

Merry Kay was well known for her kindness and generosity amongst her family, friends, and community. She valued her close relationship with the Lord and shared with her family the sense of comfort He often brought her. She had the most special gift of all; and that was to make every person that she knew feel like they were so very important. She somehow found the time and the space within her heart to make every person feel loved. Merry Kay always had the time for all of us and the right words for anyone when they needed advice. When no advice was needed, her hugs cured many a heartache, and she gave the advice anyway.

Merry Kay found the love of her life in Michael Cowell, and he with her. Together they shared the last 18 years, filling them with comforting memories. Merry Kay’s relatives that are here to continue the legacy of family and love that she created are many. Her siblings Dick (Dorothy) Pitt, Patricia (Pitt) Cross, Randy (Debra) Pitt, and Sally Pitt. In addition are the children that she and Mike brought together with the union of their love: Loraine Furman (Levi Furman), Jessie (Miller) Hund, Jason Miller, Michael Cowell, Sarah Cowell, and Julia Cowell. Merry Kay leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 5 3/4 great grandchildren to also carry on her legacy.

Merry Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Iris Ann (Bisard) Pitt and Francis Fredrick Pitt, her brother Bruce Michael Pitt, and her niece Crystal Blue Swartz.

Cremation has taken place and in honor of Merry Kay, a private memorial service will take place at a later date. Information on a future memorial service for the public will be forthcoming.  In lieu of flowers, we ask that those wishing to express their sympathy consider the family in her name.

Smith-Miner Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Pitt family; to share a special memory please visit www.smithminer.com.

Merry Kay was a bright light among our congregation at Coleman Community of Christ Church, her joyous spirit among us in worship and fellowship brought great happiness to us. We will miss her questions, her awesome prayers she shared, her competitiveness in our family fun game night get together’s. May that joyous spirit of Merry Kay live on in all the peoples lives she touched through her steadfast faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Mathew 5:16 “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Merry Kay let her light shine for many in many ways.

Mary Kay has always been my favorite sister in law and I will miss her greatly. I wish sometimes that I would never have moved 2500 miles away but I had to even though I regretted leaving without telling anyone. My side of the family gave me little choice which you will all understand. I miss Lorraine, Jessie and Jason so much.
