Welcome to Smith Miner

Michael Joseph Jacobs, 73, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2020 surrounded by his family following a stoic 13 year battle with cancer. He was loved and raised by his parents, the late Arthur and Leona Jacobs.

Michael served in the US Airforce (1966-1970) and was stationed overseas in Guam. He worked for GM, UPS, as well as Burlingame for many years, where he was a nationally-recognized, multi-million dollar sales professional. Additionally, Michael was a small business owner in Midland, MI.

Michael is remembered as a kind and loving father and an equally wonderful conversationalist and listener. Michael had the kind of soul who would make you feel like an important friend almost instantly. A family man, Michael often made time for and took great pride in his children and grandchildren’s sporting events and arts performances. He thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings, especially cookouts. During sports and games, he was quite competitive but always a gentleman. Golf was a great passion for him, spending time improving his skilled game while being with his well-loved family and friends. He enjoyed watching sports in his free time and playing in his Fantasy Football league, winning it all and appropriately becoming champion this past season.

He is survived by many: children Eugene Schaefer, Christopher (Shannon) Jacobs, Patrick (Michelle) Jacobs, Daniel Jacobs, Jordan Jacobs, Blake Jacobs, Faith Jacobs; grandchildren Ava, Mason, Christopher, Heather, Jeremy, Alec, Gabriel, and Xaviera; siblings Marvin (Charlene) Michael, Bea (Joe) Shegitz, Diane (Ron) Sharrow, Dennis (Sandy) Michael; and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother Arthur “Buzz” (Val) Jacobs.

A memorial service and celebration of Michael’s life will be announced to family and friends in the near future. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Brian’s House or the Wounded Warriors.

Smith-Miner Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Jacobs family; to share a special memory please visit www.smithminer.com.

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of your father and grandfather. I feel bad that we are family and yet have never meet. I grew up next door to Mike who is my cousin but we bother went our ways as we got older. I was fortunate enough to be reunited with him last year at St. John’s reunion. We hugged, laughed and told stories of our growing up together. I’m so glad he is no longer suffering and in pain. I loved and admired him throughout my childhood and know we will meet again.
Prayers to all of you at this difficult time.

Mike was a great neighbor who we enjoyed getting to know over these past few years. He was always friendly, and interested in our lives. He will be missed.
