Dear Amy, I am so sorry about Mike. I remember him as a small boy. Mike’s Mother, Joan Lyons, was my 1st cousin. Joan’s Mother, Anna LaMott, was my Mother’s sister. Her name was Mary Beck Martin. We live down below near Ann Arbor. We often came up to see the family in Midland. My sincere sympathy, Amy, sending love to you and yours. If you plan a memorial, I would appreciate knowing. Bless your heart, God bless…

My deepest and heart felt condolences go out to Mike, Amy and their entire family. While we all knew of Mike’s ailments, I am at a loss having heard this news.
I met “Squeak” over 40 years ago when we moved to M20 in 1975. He was quite a big kid but held his own on on the Chippewassee playground and surrounding neighborhood. When Mike was diagnosed with diabetes he turned that weight into shear muscle and by the time he hit Cemtral Intermediate he was chiseled for a little 7th/8th grader.
I am fortunate to have talked my friend into wrestling and playing football. While he hated wrestling, he fell in love with football and quite honestly fell into place as a powerful fullback for an already impressive backfield. He was an absolute beast. After high school I left for the US Navy and that is when my friend became stricken with his diabetes and resultant kidney failure.
Talk about a beast, a beast that has had to fight thru numerous surgeries and procedures from the ripe age of 20 or 21 in 1986 to 2020 at age 54. That takes a far tougher man than anything that faced most if us. More so than when he showed his prowess on the gridiron.
I am going to miss my friends colorful posts on Facebook. While he appeared to be an angry man. He actually was a man that had enough, and was fed up. He honest did care and had a huge heart.
I will sign off that I am saddened with the loss of my HS Fullback, My Little League Catcher, and my Sandlot Enforcer. If the Sandlot character “Ham” comes to mind, you have hit the nail on the head!! That is exactly what it was like to grow up with my boy, “Squeak”.
Where did the name “Squeak” come from? I honestly do not know. I do know his brother Pat called him Squeak and some of the older boys in the neighborhood called him that as well… I never had the guts to ask!!
    Rest in Peace, my friend.

Amy I am so very sorry for your loss. I grew up with Mike. Lived in the same neighborhood and went to the same schools. I always saw him in the neighborhood growing up. We were always outside playing. He was always into sports. He will be missed.

Amy…..My thoughts and prayers are with you. I am still in shock although I know Mikey was dealing with a lot of issues. Way too soon though. Out childhood together was a lot of fun. His crazy laugh and big smile.

Please let me know of any future arrangements.

    Bless you,
    Dave
