Milda Caroline Emma Diefenbach Garrels, 98, of Midland, passed away Friday, March 11, 2011.She was born February 12, 1913, in Pigeon, Michigan, to George and Clara (Schmidt) Diefenbach.Milda graduated from Eastern High School in Detroit in 1928 and attended the Detroit School of Business until 1930. She married Earl Garrels in 1935, and they made their home in Detroit until 1948. They moved to Westacres subdivision near Pontiac, where she lived until 1985, when she moved to Midland.Milda will be remembered as a faith-filled woman and a staunch member of various Lutheran churches her whole life. She was not only an encouragement and inspiration to Earl, but also a business partner in his real estate company from 1952 to 1976. She was a member of The Sweet Adelines and the Midland Chorale.Milda is survived by a daughter Judy, of Midland; and sons Robert (Mikki), of Big Rapids; Dennis, of Los Angeles, California; and Michael (Marti), of Seattle, Washington; and nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Besides parents, Milda was preceded in death by her husband Earl and brothers Wilmer and Otto Diefenbach.A memorial service will take place on Friday, March 25, at Trinity Lutheran Church (ELCA), 3701 Jefferson, Midland, 48640. Pastor Gerald Ferguson officiating. Visitation at 10 A.M., service at 11 A.M.
