Nida Jane Heath O’Dell joined her parents and siblings in Heaven on November 13, 2011. Nida was born on November 3, 1930, to Sheldon Burnley Heath and Mary Hildegard (Soderberg) Heath and resided in Midland most of her life. She graduated from Midland High School in 1948 and attended Milwaukee Downer College. She went on to U of M where she received a degree in Geology. While at U of M, she met William “Bill” O’Dell, and they married on June 28, 1952. Bill and Nida lived in WA and CA in the early years of their marriage before returning to Midland, and later divorced. Nida worked at Northwood Institute and Delta College, from where she retired as Director of Financial Aid in 1989. After retirement she traveled to FL, AZ and Ireland. Nida enjoyed many years at the family cottage on Higgins Lake. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority in college, Zonta Club and the Midland Country Club. She was also involved with various bridge clubs over the years and had volunteered at the hospital.Nida is survived by her daughter Amy Dunham and granddaughter Miranda Dunham, both of Midland. Two sisters’ in law, Doris Heath and Katee Heath. Three nephews and their families, Greg (Carol) Heath, Dan (Deb) Heath and Brian (Becky) Heath. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister and brothers Sheldon “Ted” Burnley Heath Jr. and Andreas “Andy” (Elaine) Heath. And her Brother-in-law, John O’Dell. She also leaves behind numerous friends that she loved very much.Special thanks to King’s Daughters Home and Heartland Hospice who went above and beyond to make Nida’s last few days with us comfortable and special. The staff at MMRMC on the 5th floor, including Dr. Kibler, Deana, and especially Matt who noticed what was wrong.A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 at Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church, with Reverend Dr. Rhonda M. Myers officiating. The family will receive friends at church from 10:00 am until the time of the service.In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Toni and Trish House or the Scleroderma Foundation.Smith-Miner Funeral Home is assisting the family.
