Otis (Otie) L. Terwillegar, 88, of Midland, passed away on January 21, 2014, in his home. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Otis was born on January 10, 1926, in Midland, to the late Willis and Catherine (Hockstedler) Terwillegar. Otis married his sweetheart June E. Thomas on May 6, 1946. They celebrated their 61st anniversary before she preceded him in death on May 10, 2007. Otis was a dairy farmer for many years and then worked for LaPorte Crop Service, which he retired from after more than 26 years of service. Otie enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, bowling, golfing, and his morning coffee run with all of his farming and local friends. He was a member of the Midland Mennonite Church, now New Hope Community. Otis is survived by two daughters and three sons: Fay (George) Van Cise, Connie (Harry) Swartzentruber, Tom (Judy) Terwillegar, Tim (Renee) Terwillegar, Will Terwillegar; and grandchildren: Ryan, Shane, Troy, Kirt, Lisa, Bill, Joe, Pat, Becky, Kathy, Eva, Kay, Marty and spouses; 15 great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters: Raymond (Jeanne) Terwillegar, Leroy Terwillegar, Frances (Les) Shetler; special nieces and nephews: Marge Gnagey, Carl (Sue)Thomas and family; Ruby Waddel; and his dog Butch. Otis is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Clara (Lloyd) Miller, and one great-granddaughter. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 24, 2014 at 11:00am at the New Hope Community Church with Pastor Dennis Heath officiating. His family will receive friends at the Smith Miner Funeral Home on Thursday, January 23, 2014 from 4 to 7pm and at the church at 10am until the time of service.
