Rheadore S. TolesRheadore S. Toles, of Midland, died peacefully and with grace in her home, surrounded by family and loved ones on August 24, 2014. She and family were provided the support of Mid-Michigan Hospice in Midland.Rheadore was born August 1, 1922, in Midland, daughter of Edith and Jacob Seeburger. Rhea was married June 28, 1946, to James Earl Toles in Midland at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Jim preceded her in death on July 10, 2008.Rhea retired from Dow Corning after 33 years in 1979, where she was the Executive Cafeteria Head Cook. Shortly after retiring, she and Jim moved to Lake City, where they lived for 25 years before returning to Midland in 2001. They enjoyed a long and adventurous retirement during which they wintered in Quartzite, As for 25 years and visited family throughout the country, but especially in Arkansas, Alabama, California, Oklahoma and Texas. They were part owners in a gold mine, that they helped stake and mine while in Arizona. Although, admittedly Rhea and Jim preferred the beauty of their treasured “FLRs” (funny looking rocks) to gold.Rheadore was known by family and friends as a Christian who believed whole-heartedly in the importance of family. She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church, and before moving to Lake City had been active in the Ladies Auxiliary.Rhea was a richly talented woman with an “eye for design”, who loved flowers and the beauty in nature. She was an icon in her extended family for baking and decorating beautiful wedding, birthday and anniversary cakes, and with the assistance of her husband, delivered them without a hitch anywhere. (some as far as Arkansas and California).Rheadore is survived by her son Mike Toles, two daughters, Mary Jo Toles and Holly (Toles) Lubs, son-in-law, William Lubs; five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, brother, Gerald Seeburger; sister-in-law; Mary (Peterson) Seeburger; and oodles of nieces and nephews, living across the country, as well as wonderful family friends who lovingly referred to her as “Aunt Rhea.”In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Wilbur (Jake), Howard, Harold, Roland, Gordon, and Robert Seeburger; sisters, Yvonne Seeburger, Beatrice Young, and Esther Ward; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Seeburger, Gwen Seeburger, Dorothy Cartmill, Noreen Seeburger, Edith Miner, Louise Toles, Grace Keith, Gertrude Hoaglan-Rogers, Ollie Winter, and Julia Johnson; brothers-in-law, Perry Toles, Bill Toles, George Toles, Ted Keith, Walter Hoaglan, and Howard Miner.A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 28 , 2014 at the Smith-Miner Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel Kempin of St. John’s Lutheran Church officiating. Friends can visit with the family on Wednesday , August 27, 2014 from 4-7 pm at Funeral Home and from 10am until the time of service on Thursday. Burial will follow at Midland Memorial Gardens.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.On line condolences can be given at smithminer.com
