Richard E. Anderson, 90, of Midland, died on Dec. 25, 2009, at home surrounded by his family. Richard was born in Kalamazoo on Oct. 26, 1919 to the late Ruth (Balch) and Earl Anderson. On Nov. 4, 1973 he married his sweetheart Helen Kinney at the United Church of Christ in Midland. Richard worked for Dow Chemical as a Chemical Engineer for 33 ?? years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Chippewa Nature Center. He delivered meals to homes for the Council on Aging. Richard is survived by his wife Helen; daughters, Chris (Tom) Wilt of Deland, FL, Syd Gibson of Venice, FL; sons, Carl (Peg) Merrill of Parton, MD, Rob (Rose) Merrill of Midland; grandchildren, Miles Wilt, Jeffery Gibson; 2 granddaughters; twin sister Alice Carlson of Grapevine, TX and brother Robert (Marty) Anderson of Sarasota, FL. Richard was preceded in death by a sister. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, Jan. 4, at the United Church of Christ, 4100 Chestnut Hill, Midland, at 11:00 am with Pastor Roger Pancost officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider giving to the Emergency Needs Fund of the United Church of Christ or the Chippewa Nature Center or to MidMichigan Home Care (Hospice).
