Richard M. Solosky, 86, of Midland died at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland on Tuesday, March 2, 2010. Richard was born in Midland on Jan. 22, 1924 to the late Hazel (Major) and Leo Solosky. He later married his sweetheart Barbara Kempl and had two wonderful boys. Richard was inducted into the US Army in 1943 where he served honorably, he received the Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Victory Ribbon, A.T. Ribbon, E.A. MC Ribbon, 2 Bronze Battle Stars, 2 Overseas Service Bars, Good Conduct Medal and was honorable discharged as a Sergeant. Richard loved cutting hair and was a self-employed barber for over 40 years. He was an avid drum player and loved music and played in the band called, Blast from the Past. He was also a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church – Fisherville. Richard is survived by his wife Barbara; sons, Richard L.P. Solosky of Evergreen, CO, Robert M. Solosky of Lakewood, CO; grandchild, LIndsey-Solosky Brown; 1 great grandchild, Caprece Mackenzie brown; brothers Ethan Solosky and Douglas Solosky. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church – Fisherville, on Saturday, March 6 at 10:00 am, with Father Jerry Balwinski officiating. The family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Friday March 5 from 5 til 7 and at the church on Saturday from 9 am until the time of the service. Richard will be buried at Calvary Cemetery with full Military Honors under the auspices of the Midland County Veterans. Online Memorials are available at www.smithminer.com.
