Richard S. Connelly, 86, of Larkin Township, Midland, died on March 31, 2011 at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born on Oct. 31, 1924 in Larkin Township to the late Mary (Churchfield) and Timothy Connelly. He graduated from Midland High School and immediately upon graduation he joined the U.S. Army where he served honorably during World War II. After returning from the war he married his sweetheart Patricia Craig. Richard was a big sports fan. He loved the American Legion Berryhill Baseball teams. He watched and supported them as much as he could. He loved the Detroit Tigers, U of M Football and MSU Basketball. His grandchildren were the loves of his life and he loved to spend time with them. Richard was a very giving person and would do anything he could to help others. Richard is survived by his loving wife Patricia; children, Thomas Connelly, Brenda (Robert) Oliver, Julia (Lee) Engelhart, David (Laurie) Connelly; grandchildren, Amy (Thomas) Clark, Lisa (Seth) Jordan, Brian (Billie) Oliver, Stephanie Soth, Killian Powers, Alysha Connelly, Marissa Engelhart, Arron Engelhart; 7 great grandchildren and sisters, Angela (Leo) Myers, Diane (Joe) Serbinski. Richard was predeceased by his sister Gertrude (Floyd) Schymanski; brother Tommy Connelly and step-father Richard Clark. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 4, 2011, at Assumption BVM Church, with Father Kevin Maksym Presiding. The family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Sunday, April 3, from 4 til 8 pm with a vigil service starting at 8. A private committal service will take place at a later date.
