Robert E. “Bob” Briley,87, died at home, on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. He was the son of Edgerton O. and Fanny (Wilkins) Briley. He was born Nov. 3, 1922 at Johannesburg, MI. He graduated from Johannesburg Rural Agricultural School in 1940. After high school he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. He worked at the G.M. Saginaw Gear Plant until he was drafted to serve in the U.S. Army and spent time in the European Theater, 1943 thru 1945. After returning from the service he settled in Midland and went to work for Bartlett Electric.He married Laura Rena Ciniawa of Johannesburg on June 6, 1946 in Gaylord, MI. She preceded him Nov. 17, 1997. He owned and operated Briley Electric for 30 yrs retiring in 1995. He was a member of F.U.M.C. of Midland until his death. He was also a member of Midland Masonic Lodge, Order of the Amaranth, American Legion, and V.F.W. He also was a Trustee on the Midland Township Board from 1998 until Dec. 2000. Saginaw Council #43 U.C.T. Besides his wife of 50 yrs he was predeceased by his son Jeffrey Briley; daughter, Suzanne Tierney and brother Gordon Briley. Surviving him are his sisters, Lillis (Gilbert) McWethy and Clemma Lenehan; grandchildren Kelly Tierney, Laurie Tierney; Jeff Briley Jr. and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 10:00 am with Pastor Pam Booschultz officiating, with full military rites under the auspices of the Midland County Veterans. The family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home now located at 2700 W. Wackerly, Midland, on Friday, from 4 til 7 pm and at the church from 9 until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Johannesburg, MI. Memorials may be made to the F.U.M.C. or your favorite charity.
