Robert Dalton Baringer, 90, of Midland, died at his home on May 14, 2013. Robert was born on July 29, 1922 in Midland to the late Royal and Gertrude (Holly) Baringer. on July 29, 1946 (his birthday) he married his sweetheart Norma J. Craig. She predeceased him on April 28, 2007. Robert served honorably in the U. S. Navy during World War II as a “Blimp Rigger”. His job was to maintain and repair the Navy’s Blimps. He was an accomplished pilot and loved all things aviation related. Robert was a member of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Chapter 1093. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time at the lake property. When Robert was 75 he and some friends decided to try skydiving which they did from 5000 feet. Robert and his wife Norma owned Baringer Men’s Store in downtown Midland from 1968 until Norma’s death in 2007. Robert is survived by his sons Craig (Pat) Baringer of Homer, Alaska, Kris (Mary Ann) Baringer of Beaverton; grandchildren, Kim, Shane, Scottie, Sarah, Jerami; great grandchildren, Scottie and Logan. Robert was predeceased by his sister Letha Smith and brother Cliff. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, Midland is assisting the family.
