Robert W. Lloyd, 93, of Midland and Palmetto, FL., died on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010 at Rhoda’s House. Robert was born in Geneva, Indiana on Nov. 20, 1916 to the late Nellie Effie (Kerr) and William Rufus Lloyd. Robert married Genevieve Bloom on Jan. 1st, 1940. They were married form 48 yrs. until her death in 1988. Robert then married Gladys Zeedyk and was married to her for 10 yrs. until her death. Robert served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked as a foreman for Dow Chemical in their Bromine Products Division. Robert also owned and operated Lloyd’s Door Systems before retiring and turning the business over to his grandson, Alan Hignite. Robert was a member of the American Legion Midland Post 165 and the BPOE Elks #2449 of Palmetto, FL . Robert is survived by his daughter, Sue Hignite of Midland; stepson, David Hedges of Reno, NV; grandson, Alan (Lisa) Hignite of Clare; granddaughter, Michelle (Jason) Haydon of LaGrange, KY; great grandsons, Hunter Haydon of LaGrange, Zachary Brockway of Clare and sister, Edith Gagliardi of Midland. Robert was predeceased by his stepson Fredric Hedges; great grandson, Dale Hignite; sisters, Evelyn Hall, Roberta Sovereen; brothers, Orville and Jack; son-in-law Duane Hignite A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, Oct. 22, at 11:00 am at the Midland Missionary Church, with Pastors Fred Bicknell, Eric Smith and Wayne Shidler officiating . The family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Thursday Oct. 21 from 3:30 to 7 pm and on Friday at the church from 10:30 am until the time of the service. Interment will take place at Midland Memorial Gardens. Full Military honors under the Auspices of the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the Midland County Veterans.
