Robin (Rob) Gaylord VanHorn of Mt. Pleasant, MI, continued on to his next journey May 1, 2014.Born August 17, 1956 (Alma, MI) to Gerald and Isabelle(Altiman) VanHorn. He was a member of the Walpole Island Bkejwanong First Nation, ON. His formative years were spent growing up in Alma, MI.In 1974 he served the United States Navy as a Signalman in?Çó North Long Beach, Ca., he traveled the seas near Africa. he returned to Naval service later years and received an honorable discharge.Robin, a loving Husband, Father, Brother and Cousin, he enjoyed riding his Harley and being constructive. He worked for the SCIT & SECR for 20+ years in IT/Maintenance/Slot Tech where had many friends and co-workers whom he enjoyed the pleasure of knowing and working alongside.Rob is survived by his wife of 17 years Debra, children Meghan C. VanHorn of Cedar Rapids, IA and Jacob R.(Allison) VanHorn of Grand Rapids, MI, step children Mike (Monica) and David (Patty) Moody, granddaughter Kora Irene VanHorn, and step grand children Morgan & Madison. He is also survived by his brother, Warren VanHorn of Santa Monica, CA., mother in law Ann Hignite, many members of Debra’s family and the mother of his children Carole Sinclair.He loved his families very much including his many uncles, aunties & cousins.Rob was proceeded in death by his parents Gerald VanHorn of St. Louis, MI & Isabelle (Altman) of Walpole Island, ON.Funeral services will start at 1 pm on Monday, May 5, 2014 at St. John?ÇÖs Lutheran, 505 E. Carpenter, Midland, MI 48640 with Pastor Daniel Kempin officiating. Friends can visit with the family from 12 pm until the time of service.. Rob will be laid to rest at Pine Grove Cemetery and luncheon served to celebrate his life. Military honors will be under the auspices of the Midland County Veterans and US Navy.Thank you to all of those who stood by his side and watched over him during his fight with cancer.
