Roger R. Asiala, 74, of Midland, passed away on March 17, 2018 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was born in Cadillac, Michigan on June 2, 1943 to the late Roy A. and June E. (Maidens) Asiala. On January 29, 1966 he married Mona E. Bever.

Roger worked in the Midland Public Schools for 33 years teaching math and science. He was at the forefront of technology and trained other teachers how to use computers in the classroom, received the Gerstacker Excellence in Teaching Award for his commitment to education and was a negotiator to the MEA Teachers Union. He was also a tennis coach and member of the MFCU board. Roger enjoyed skiing, golfing and woodworking. Notably were cribs, cradles hutches and cabinets.

Roger is survived by his wife, Mona, children, Andrae (Jason) Koval, Alan (Jill) Asiala, grandchildren, Joshua Koval, Christopher Koval, Michael Koval, Laura Koval and Thomas Asiala. He is also survived by his siblings, Sandra (Lyle) Rossiter, Glenn (Karen) Asiala, Gordon (Carolyn) Asiala, Karen (John) Peters, Steven (Terry) Asiala, Norman (Paula) Asiala, Donald (Kathy) Asiala and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Roger was predeceased by his brother, Larry Asiala.

A Funeral Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran, on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11:00 am with Pastor Gerald Ferguson officiating. Friends may visit with the family at Smith-Miner Funeral Home on Friday, March 23rd from 4-7 pm and at the church on Saturday, March 24th, from 10 am until the time of service.
