Russell Ben Pugsley, 89, of Sanford, died at Brittany Manor on Tuesday, May 19, 2009. Russell was born on Feb. 4, 1920 on the family farm, where he was also raised, in Ferris Township, Montcalm County, MI to the late Benjamin and Pearl (Black) Pugsley. On Nov. 23, 1940 he married his sweetheart Martha Dell in Vestaburg, MI. Russell went on to work as a truck driver for Nelson Trucking and Bigard Drilling Co. for 36 years retiring in 1982. Russell was an avid wood worker. He enjoyed working in his yard and walking in his neighborhood. He had a fantastic work ethic and worked in the oil fields for many years. Russell is survived by his wife Martha; daughters Nancy (Bill) Robison of DeWitt, Sue (Tom) Reed of Milford; son Ronald (Darlene) Pugsley of Midland; grandchildren, Dane (Laurie) Robison of Holt, Kari (Scott) Fitzgerald of Whitmore Lake, Major Jenn Reed (USAF), Jay (Cristie) Reed of Breckenridge, Michelle (Nathan) Kendall of Midland, Lynn (Joe) Darling of Midland; great grandchildren, Nicholas and Abigail Kendall, Sachiko Robison, Shaelyn and Corbin Reed, Andrea Turner and Chris, Hannah and Jennifer Donaldson. Russell was preceded in death by his sisters Hope (Alva) Dimit, Alice (Milton) Fairbank and brother, Rex Pugsley. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, on Friday, May 22 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home with Chaplain Fred Hart of the Hospice Advantage officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday May 21 from 5 – 7 pm and at 10:00 am on Friday until the time of the service.
