
Shirley A. Colvin, 84, of Midland, formerly of Beaverton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on December30, 2019 at MidMichigan Medical Center. She was born on November 22, 1935 to the late Henry and Helena (Kosloski) Dorey. On November 10, 1954 she married Sanford “Hut” Colvin and they shared 37 years together before he predeceased her on April 29, 1991.
Shirley enjoyed fishing, cooking, watching Detroit Tiger’s baseball, and playing cards. Shirley had a great love of music and was a steel guitar player. She was a member of the Troubadours for over 50 years and a member of the Michigan Country Music Hall of Fame.
Shirley is survived by her children; Deborah (Karl) Kretz, Roland (Debbie) Colvin, Richard Colvin, Ron (Jo Ortman) Colvin, Roger (Diane) Colvin, Raymond (Brenda Ford) Colvin, 21 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Beverly (“Dan” Samuel) Smart.
Shirley was predeceased by her children; Randy Colvin, Dusty Colvin, Terry Colvin Rodney Colvin, daughter in-law; Marcia Thurmond and one grandson, Ryan Colvin.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at the Beaverton Church of Nazarene with Pastor Martin Hodge officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home from 4-7 pm and at the church on Saturday from 10 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at the Beaverton Cemetery.
