Shirley Helen (Dennis) Walker, age 86, of Midland, Michigan, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, August 25, 2018, surrounded by family. She was born on April 9, 1932, in Bay City, Michigan, daughter of the late William and Mildred (Euler) Dennis. She was a 1950 graduate of Bay City Central High School. On October 24, 1959, Shirley married Robert Roy Walker at the Free Methodist Church in Bay City.
After completing her nurse’s training at Hurley Nursing School in Flint, Michigan, Shirley worked at the Dow Chemical Company for 39 years as a Registered and Industrial Nurse and was known for her joyfulness and laughter. She served as the Treasurer of Nazarene World Missions Society (NWMS) at the Midland Nazarene Church for over 30 years, and also loved worship through serving as the church organist. Shirley especially loved spending time with her sons’ families and faithfully attended her grandchildren’s school and sporting events (Grandparents’ Day, graduations, etc.). Shirley will be forever remembered as a loving and deeply-devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 58 years Robert; son Mark (Kimberly) Walker; daughter-in-law Leslie (Paul) Walker; grandchildren Sarah Walker, Stephen Walker and Nick Walker; brother Vernon (Sharon) Dennis; brothers-in-law Harold “Bud” (Laura) Walker and Kenneth (Mary) McQuiston; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her son Paul Walker; sister Elaine McDonald; sisters-in-law Laura Walker, Mary McQuiston and Dorothy Walker; and in-laws Frank and Mabel Walker.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at the Midland Nazarene Church, with the Reverend Charles Jacobson officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 from 5-7pm at Smith-Miner Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 10 am until time of service. Following the funeral service there will be a 2 pm entombment at Chapel Hill Mausoleum of Freeland for those interested in attending.
The Walker family is deeply grateful for the tender-loving care and support received from Paulette Bird, Dorothy Strugala, Sheri Kuchek, Anna Lyhkainen and Mid-Michigan Hospice.
