Sterling C. Gatling, 65, of Midland, passed away on July 20, 2017 at MidMichigan Medical Center. He was born on April 13, 1952 in Mapleton, NC to Alpheus Jr. and Dorothy (Britt) Gatling. He married Mary Anderson on November 2, 1974 in Charlotte, NC.

Sterling worked as a research chemist at Dow Chemical for 30 years retiring in 1999. He was an avid golfer and loved singing. He enjoyed table tennis, monopoly and film editing. Sterling was a member of Eagle Ridge Church of God, part of the Gideon’s International and traveled and preached God’s Word.

Sterling is survived by his wife, Mary, children, Sterling II (Margo) Gatling and Stephen (Sameerah) Gatling, grandchildren: Caleb, Joshua, Naomi, Mia, and Janelle. He is also survived by his mother, Dorothy, who just celebrated her 100th birthday, siblings: Arnetta, Julia Ann, Anna, Annie Gaye, MacArthur, Randy and many cherished friends.

Sterling was predeceased by his father, Alpheus Jr. and siblings, Cleora, Alpheus III and Claude Larry.

A Funeral Service will take place at Eagle Ridge Church of God on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Bill Greiner officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday at the church from 12:30 until the time of service.
