Theodore Kern Sr., 95, died on May 22, 2009 at the Toni and Trish House in Auburn. Ted was born in Argentina on March 15, 1914 to Henry and Wanda (Gunsh) Kern. He lived in Argentina until 1921 when he and his family left by boat to come to the United States. They lived in Wisconsin for 3 months, then move to Fairgrove where they made their home. On March 27, 1935, he married Anne Beller. She predeceased him on September 24, 1978. They lived in Fairgrove until 1945 then made their farm their home on Knox Road in Beaverton. Ted enjoyed fishing, spending time outdoors and riding his quad. He so enjoyed his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and extended family. Ted was also blessed to have the company of his wonderful friend, companion and care-giver Doris Mendyk for 19 yrs. He also enjoyed his time with his many friends at the Sanford Senior Center. Ted taught Sunday school and was Sunday School Superintendant for many years at the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Gladwin. Ted is survived by his children Caroline (William) Foster of Midland, Marilyn Major of Midland, Theodore (Karen) Kern of Beaverton, Jerry (Sandy) Kern of Gladwin, Fredrick (Donna) Kern of Saginaw, Kathleen (Tom) York of Midland, Gregory (Judy) Kern of Beaverton, Renee (Gary) Hecht of Vassar; grandchildren, Rod (Karen) Foster of Whittaker, Sherri (Craig) Foster of Lancaster, PA, Deborah (Albert) Reluzco of Rockville MD, Jeff Bublitz of Morganza, LA, Tommy (Diane) York of Midland, Kirk Kern and Teri Kern of Beaverton, Jeremy Kern and Charlie Kern-Rummbough of Roswell NM, Tracey Kern of Largo FL, Bradley Kern and Deanna Kern of Saginaw, DeAun (Brian) Deshano of Sanford, Tammy (Tracy) Moon of Gladwin, Tracey (Jeremy) Finney of Midland, Gregory Kern Jr. of Battle Creek, twin girls Anne Kern of Adrian and Ivy (Justin) Dailey of Fayetteville NC, twin boys Joseph Kern of Beaverton and Andrew Kern of Shepherd, Triplets Garrison, ReAnna and Malachi Hecht of Vassar; great grandchildren twins Skye and Lake Foster, Ryan Kern, Alexander Kern, Logan and Evan Rummbough, Sarah and Katie Longstreth, Kailin and Emily Moon, Brennan and Jake Finney and Willow Dailey; brother Fred Kern of Caro; sister Mary Carter of Morongo, CA and sister in law June Kern Cornell. In addition to his parents Ted was predeceased by his wife Anne, son Ricky Nelson Kern, son in law Joseph Major and great grandson Daniel Snoody as well as 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Teds family wishes to extend their gratitude to the caregivers and John McKelvey at the Toni and Trish House. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, May 27 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church which is located at 1600 Dale Rd., Beaverton, with Pastor Paul Metzger officiating. Interment will following at the Dale Road Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home on Tuesday May 26 from 4 – 7 pm and at the Church on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers please consider the Toni and Trish House or the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
