(February 13, 1932 – April 23, 2010)

The pearly gates were opened and Vernon (Vern) George Loree Sr., 78 of Hope was welcomed in. Vernon passed away after a lengthy illness, held close by his wife and daughter at the Saginaw VA. He was born at home in Flint to George and Anna (Hockaday) Loree, February 13, 1932. He attended Flint schools moving on to Roscommon and then graduating from Gaylord High School in 1950. This is where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Martha Whitney. They were married in Flint, August 5, 1951. They settled in Hope where he found work at the Dow Chemical, retiring after 27 years. Proud to have retired at 50 years old, he then bought K-Hardware and has owned it for almost 25 years. Vernon is survived by his wife Martha of 59 years, his daughter Lynn (Mick) Broka, two sons Vernon Loree Jr. and Raymond (Patricia Gnotek) Loree, all of Hope. One granddaughter Amber (Dwayne) Valley and two great grandchildren, Payton and Regan Valley. He had one brother Lorne (Nellie) Loree of Midland. He also leaves behind sisters and brother in laws, Alice Craig, Ernie (Anita) Whitney, Hazel (Marvin) Grant, Betty Whitney, Joyce Smith, Carrie (Bill) Hoover, Vern (Peg) Whitney, Christina (Richard) Scope, Vera Herrington, Sandy Whitney. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews that were very important to him. He was predeceased by four brother in laws, Clayton Whitney, Raymond Whitney, Stewart Whitney and Alan Craig. A Funeral Service will be held at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Tuesday, April 27, at 11:00 am with Pastor Charles Drudge officiating. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, on Monday, April 26 from 4 to 7 pm and on Tues. from 10 am until the time of the service. Burial will take place at 2:00 pm at the Ridge Cemetery in Gladwin. Military honors are under auspices of the Midland County Veterans In lieu of flowers those wishing to give an expression of sympathy are asked to donate to Vern’s family.
