Welcome to Smith Miner

(April 6, 1928 – July 4, 2013)

Virginia Lee (Franck) Fowler, was called home in the early morning hours of the 4th of July. She went quietly but left a brilliant light for all who knew her. Virginia was born on April 6, 1928, in Big Rapids, MI, the daughter of the late Victor Herbert Franck and Jennie Arvilla Baird. Virginia graduated with a degree in teaching from Ferris Institute. There she met LeRoy Archibald Fowler, who she married on June 9, 1951. They moved to Hemlock, where she began lifelong teaching and nurturing. When they moved to Midland they became the proud parents of Douglas and Sherilyn. Virginia was also a gifted cook and baker. The cookies she baked were extraordinary, especially the chocolate chips. She brought her children’s friends in with cookies and they often stayed for the lessons of love and support. Virginia Lee Fowler is survived by her children, Douglas (Kristi) and Sherilyn; special friends Michael and Sue Banner, niece and nephew Steve and Lynn Franck and many other nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy, and her brother Bill Franck. It is difficult to name all those who have provided support in ways too numerous to mention. The thanks from the family seem inadequate but are heartfelt. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private service at a later date. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Food Pantry of Midland and those in need.Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, is assisting the family.
