Willard Hoogerhyde, 85, of Midland passed away at home surrounded by family on May 15, 2019. He was born on August 11, 1933 to the late Lee and Iva (Smith) Hoogerhyde. On September 14, 1961 he married Carlene Rettelle and they had 58 wonderful years together.


Willard worked as an operator at Dow Chemical for 38 years retiring in 1980. Willard liked rabbits and bee’s and was a Bee Keeper. He enjoyed gardening and flowers, woodworking and watching the Detroit Tigers.


Willard is survived by his wife, Carlene, children; Jill (Bill) Bloom, Terrie (Joe) Roland, Carla Leitch, William Briggs, grandchildren; Jade (Jonathan), Alyssa (Dwayne), Jeremy, Michelle (Dan) and 14 great grandchildren.


Willard was predeceased by his granddaughter, Brandi, great granddaughter, Allysa and sisters Elzora Cochran and Madge Wray.


A Memorial Service will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Open Door Baptist Church with Pastor Jody Ellis officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will take place at Midland Memorial Gardens.

    Nanna, Jill, Bill, Jade & Family,
    We are so sorry for the loss of Poppa. You were much more than our neighbors; you treated us like family with so much love and care. Poppa was such a kind and great man.
