William (Bill), age 99, passed away peacefully the evening of October 5th after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family during the last days of his life. He was born February 21, 1920 in Chesaning, Michigan and moved to Edenville as a boy. Bill married Eleanor Schearer on August 30, 1940. He built his own home in Edenville on the same land that would become their Centennial Farm, where he lived while working at Dow Chemical and farming before retirement.
Bill served in the US Army from 1944 to 1946, earning a Purple Heart while serving in the Philippines. He enjoyed living and farming on his centennial farm, hunting deer with his family, and going on camping trips with friends. Bill also enjoyed the many family gatherings held down by the Tittabawassee River. He was a founding member of the Edenville Volunteer Fire Department. Bill retired from Dow Chemical Company in 1982 after working many years on the brine wells. Bill & Eleanor spent many winters in Haines City, Florida after retirement.
Bill is survived by his children, William Dennis Bacon (Christine) and Connie (Dennis) Rogers; his sister Phyllis Boman; his grandchildren Bill Bacon, Mike Bacon, Darren Lupcke, Kim (John) Gillman, LeAnne Foster, Pamela (Steve) Klyn; and his great-grandchildren Matthew (Amanda) Foster, Joel Foster, Lauren Lupcke, Mitch Lupcke, Ashley Bacon, Christopher Bacon, Kate Lupcke, Addie Lupcke. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Eleanor Shearer Bacon; his daughter – Dawn Lupcke & son-in-law Jerry Lupcke; grandsons Christopher Bacon and Tim Lupcke; and sisters Mildred Bowden, Marian Ruff, Joann Rock and brother Albert Bacon.
A funeral service will be held for William at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home with Pastor Rob Nystrom officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, and on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at New Edenville Cemetery.
