William "Bill" Lester Stephens, 91, of Midland, died Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Stratford Pines in Midland, Michigan. The son of the late Frank and Ruth Stephens, he was born in Lowell, Michigan, on April 28, 1926.
He was an infantryman in Europe during World War II as a part of Patton’s 3rd
Army. He then attended Taylor University, Michigan State College, and Fuller
Theological Seminary. In 1952 he married Helen Schlesinger, his wife of 65 years.
Bill and Helen most recently lived at Riverside Place. For 33 years he taught at
Kelloggsville High School in Grand Rapids. Over the years he worshipped at
Sparta Baptist Church (Sparta), Trinity Baptist Church (Grand Rapids), and
Sunrise Baptist Church (Midland). He praised Jesus as his Lord and Savior, and for
the grace of God.
Surviving are his wife, Helen, sons, Philip (Susan) Stephens of Midland, David (Lynne) Stephens of Arvada, Colorado, and John (Beverly) Stephens of Katy, Texas; and eleven grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He is also survived by his sisters, Martha Lou Michel and Linda Barnes.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother James.
A private memorial service will be held. Memorials may be offered to the Gideonâ€™s.
